FISH FRY

8TH DISTRICT FISH FRY

After Sonny Perdue was sworn in as Governor in 2003, he wanted to thank his friends, family, supporters, and campaign volunteers who helped him win and become the first Republican governor since Reconstruction. He sponsored the first “Sonny’s Fish Fry” at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry which is near his hometown. Huge crowds came to celebrate, eat fried catfish, enjoy music, and most of all, enjoy the great camaraderie among the Republican elected officials, candidates for office, volunteers, and guests. After Sonny left the governorship, the state GOP took over the event for a few years and then passed it on to the 8th District to host. We have proudly continued the tradition, and one Saturday each August, people come to Perry from around the state. Each year, we enjoy speakers, door prizes, Gator’s sno-cones, yummy peaches from Dickey’s Farm, and delicious watermelons that Gary and Lydia Black slice for us. Good entertainment has always been a big part of the day’s fun from bluegrass to gospel to country bands and cloggers. Most importantly, prayer and patriotism rule the day. We hope you will join us this year and every year
